One thing is certain, we cats do need to assess the potential dangers our humans may not be aware of. Although I may be an indoor only cat who has never stepped foot outside in my entire life, I am capable of keeping up with the local gossip.

Some of the QV cats have brought to my attention that outdoor cats need to avoid jumping into sewer drains on the side of the road. Last month, it was reported that a grey tuxedo cat wearing white socks was last seen jumping into a sewer drain to avoid being squashed by passing cars. I am embarrased to say that one of those vehicles belongs to my human.
Unlike dogs, cats can see the world around them in color. Our eyes can pick up pigments like yellow, blue, and green the most. We like the color yellow especially. We never ignore the color yellow. Apparently, that was what happened to the fella in the grey tuxedo, he saw "yellow" and panicked; not realizing my human's car had already stopped waiting for him to make his next move. Sadly, he chose to jump into the sewer drain. Thinking the stench or the fall might have killed the poor fella, my human called the city and the county to retrieve his body.

A little secret about us cats: we need human intervention to keep us safe. we have no self-control. our emotions are off the charts. we sometimes do things that make no sense because we have no common sense. but we are soooooooo cute.

It's been a while since my previous post. My human brought home earlier this month, a new member of the family - my "little sister". I've been busy chasing after her and keeping her straight about the rules. Our human thinks we go a little too far at times with our wrestling, chasing, and fighting. But in reality, my little sister and I do get along. We keep each other company and we do everything together. We even get the "time outs" together.

I don't have anything new to report from the neighborhood cats. We know not to venture outdoor during Halloween. Plus, it's getting cooler and we would rather curl up in our favorite beds, relax, watch a football game or two.

My human tells me she found my brother. He looks like me and is just as silly as I can be. I have wondered what became of him. We were inseparable as kittens. A year ago when I left my home in Florida to be with my new owner, my brother traveled with me on my long journey to my new home. The first few months without him were rough, but eventually, my human convinced me that I am the love of her life and couldn't live without me. I know my brother is happy with his new family too. He's traveled even further than I have.

We cats do travel far to be with our humans.

The council has yet to decide how to address the problem of heavy traffic congestion in our little neighborhood. Although humans have posted speed limits of 25 mph, some of us cats have clocked cars at top speeds of 60 mph!

The cat in the tuxedo has not been around lately. There is a big red stain on the road. My human tells me it's just paint.

Virgie and the others joined in Friday night to a game of UNO. Yeah, we cats still play UNO. It could be one of the last few games for 'ole Virgie. "It's my [bleep] kidney", he says. "My body feels like shutting down. I had a dream of crossing the rainbow the other night. I said, 'please God, don't take me now. I want to see my friends again - one more time'".

We will miss our ole pal. Who knows, maybe the humans will come up with a miracle cure!

It rained! it Rained! two days in a row.

My human has gone back to school again. Her mind is elsewhere ... far away. I can't even get her to chase after me anymore.

A couple of times I will study with her. I discovered I like the smell of Sharpie high-lighters.

Phew! it's hot! Really hot! We cats haven't seen rain since July 29th. We've seen 110 to 112 degree very hot temperatures for weeks now. No cats would dare venture outdoors -- except for that one dummy in a tuxedo, who insists on coming over for a visit.

My human tells me she stopped by this evening. Can't help but feel sorry for her. She lost her collar. She's a tuxedo cat with white boots. We don't know for certain where her humans are. She shouldn't be wondering around in this heat.

I am so glad most of our humans have common sense to keep us indoor where it's cool and safe.

I luv my human.

She feeds me tuna twice a day.

(Revised today by me)

My source tells me that members of the kitty council felt an issue of great importance required yet another council meeting yesterday. In recent weeks, the council received several grievances by flustered kitties trying to make their way about the neighborhood while avoiding becoming what humans call "road kill" for local buzzards to dine on.

After receiving word, I must agree that we must decisively and unanimously push for the ever "not so heard of" Cat Xing referendum we cats proposed many times before but had not been enforceable. And why has that been the case? It's because none of us kitties have been able to comunicate with much success, our suggestion to our humans.

Oh we do try.

Jezebel can attest to that. Jezzie tells me a yellow car almost ran over her the other night when she crossed the street to go home. "Thanks to my 9 (minus one) lives, the yellow car was driving very slow and stopped just in time to let me cross...Oh my gosh, I thought I was a gonner!"

Poor Jezzie. She was so sad and broken-hearted.

The cows get Xing signs. The kangaroos get Xings signs. Why couldn't we?

----------------------------------
On a brighter note: Kudos to one very special human in Siberia!

Word has it, a very nice Russian lady has taken in 130 of us brothers and sisters to care for us, feed us, and keep us happy and out of -40 degree Celcius weather duringthe cold Siberian winters. Which by the way, ... that's also -40 degree Fahrenheit.

She will receive her medal of valor one day!

Yes seriously! The Russian lady could end up losing custody of all her cats. Neighbors have complained because of the "noise". As you can see in the photo above, the living space is clean, cats are clean and looks well fed. The Russian lady feeds them twice a day (wet and dry) and fills a large plastic tub of water for the cats to drink as well. And the cats sit around which as some suggests, seem odd. In retrospect, if you were a cat, abandoned into the cold Siberian winter, wouldn't you prefer to sit and enjoy the good graces of a generous human?

If you can help her keep and care for her cats, .... we (cats and cat lovers alike are forever greatful).

I've never braved the great outdoors in my life. It scares me to think that there's a whole different world out there beyond that big white door, where I sit and wait for my human to walk through.

I overheard my human's phone conversation the other day. She was talking to someone about a "giant owl with a wing span of about 6 feet wide". I mewed at her to get her attention. I want to know more about this "giant owl". According to the humans, this giant owl lives in our neighborhood. My poodle friend (uhhuum "ex-friend" - that's another story altogether) once told me about her close encounter with a hawk as a puppy. According to the poodle, the hawk circled above her, getting closer and closer. My human saw what had happened and scooped up the poodle puppy and went inside. The hawk also flew away - empty handed.

My human tells me that she came upon three giant vultures several weeks ago. These scavenging fellas were circling around a squirly road kill but waited until the humans left the scene. She says the buzzards built a nest high up in the trees and that giant bird sightings aren't unique for the neighborhood.

My human is also concerned about the possibility of us cats and small dogs becoming bird food. She also told me about the giant woodpecker too.

I don't ever want to go outside!

We live in a world of surprises.

Some humans attempt to define us in what humans call stereotypes - which I suppose, if one were to examine our behavior in a human sort of way, their conclusions are essentially, the most convenient way of explaining the unexplainable.

We had some rain in our neighborhood these past two days. The rain is good, as I'm told. The temperature has cooled some allowing a few of us cats to venture outdoors, but not far from our home I might add. And it's not just the cats that are outdoors enjoying the cooler weather, and the feel of wet grass between their toes. Our neighborhood dogs are also enjoying the cooler change in temperature too.

Our poker game was postponed. "Virgie" didn't show up either. We have another missing pet in the neighborhood too. This time it's a 12-year old golden retriever with a white muzzle. Their humans seem to believe the dog got lost somewhere. If found, call the human at 518-2386.

Dogs and cats. Some do actually get along you know. I should know. I'm platonically involved with a French poodle. She's been microchipped. My human is talking to me about getting microchipped too. Personally, I think a tattoo is so cool.

My human is looking at me disapprovingly.

Summer heat! Phew. It's hot.

As most of us cats are indoors where there's air conditioning and a nice bowl of water filled with ice cubes, others are not as fortunate as they brave the heat.

Breaking News straight from the neighborhood: "A Lost Cat" A new family of humans lost one of our own. He was last seen running from Hunters Blind Drive towards North Beaver Dam on July 10, 2007.

His humans posted "Wanted" posters all over hoping to find one of our brothers. My human picked up a copy for me to write on my blog. Okay you cats, we need your help in locating this poor, frightened fella:

LOST: Tailess Cat, Reward Offered
Physical description: large, male, short-hair tabby, brown black & white with white gloves and white boots, stubby tail

Personality: Shy and timid, will probably run away if approached by a human or dog

IF FOUND: call his humans at 255-5238

Humans. Our greatest allies and sometime foe. Earlier this week, as the cats gathered to catch up on the latest gossip, it was brought to our attention that one of our beloved humans heroically saved "Virgie", the freedom loving feline who loves the feel of fresh morning dew between his toes. According to eyewitnesses, "Virgie" minding his own business, was on his driveway when two big ferocious looking morning walkers snarled, growled, and threatened to tear him into pieces. Once again, we cats can't stress enough just how important leash laws are.

As of this writing, "Virgie" is in therapy from the terrible fright he experienced. Get well soon "Virgie" we have our poker game in two weeks and we need you well, fully recovered, and your best "poker face" at the table.

"In the last week's session of the Kitty Council the main topic of discussion, once again, seemed to revolve around the dogs not abiding by the city leash laws." At least that's what I read from an old edition of The Daily Cat Tale. I found it sitting on top of my human's coffee table one afternoon.

I have noticed that my human has been adding "Cat Fancy" to her collection of reading material recently. The human must have thought the centerfolds would help me with my separation anxiety.

But more importantly, the latest rumor and gossip must be mentioned here.

I live with my human in a community that cares about its wild-life. I live indoor protected and sheltered, but some of my brothers and sisters do live both indoors and outdoors freely. Rumor has it, an orange tabby maybe missing from the neighborhood. She was last seen walking home and had just entered her driveway when she alledgedly went missing (more like abducted by a stranger passerby).

Humans should read the sign posted on our main entrance when they drive through our little community. Most of us cats belong to someone or several someones. We like it here. The community has plenty of water and many different species of birds. The humans here have nice landscaping and plenty of bushes to hide in. Some humans will even leave a can of tuna or cat food out for us. So, please! don't stop to grab us. More likely than not, we belong to someone.
